Our Accessibility Policy

We are devoted to establishing and upholding an accessible, inclusive festival where all staff, volunteers, vendors, and participants are treated with honor, respect, and equality.

Reserved Parking Spaces
The Festival is held across various City Community Centres and Cultural Facilities in Barrie. All parking lots feature spaces reserved for individuals with disabilities, and these spaces are clearly labeled.

Public Transportation
Public transportation to the Festival includes: Barrie Transit buses

Vehicles for individuals with special needs and taxis may use entrance driveways for passenger drop-off near the main entrances of each venue.
Details regarding Shuttle Bus services, Barrie Transit accessibility, routes, and schedules will be available on the Festival’s website.

Stages and Seating
Designated seating will be available at each stage for individuals with mobility devices, along with their companions, family members, support persons, and service animals. These seating areas will offer an unobstructed view of the stage.

Food Services and Public Eating Areas
Food vendors and dining areas are situated on stable ground.
The outdoor section is outfitted with wooden picnic tables, all of which feature open ends, allowing accessibility for individuals with mobility devices. The tables are placed on level, firm, and secure ground, with sufficient space around each table to ensure easy access.

Washrooms and Temporary Toilets
Accessible, temporary toilets are situated in the Outdoor Area grounds.

Rest Areas and Shelters from Weather
Given that the festival takes place in Barrie, it is challenging to designate a specific rest or quiet area at each location. However, seating is available at city facilities. Temporary shelter from heat, cold, rain, or wind will be provided under tents that will be set up on-site at various locations.

Signs
Signs and maps located throughout the Festival grounds will be in large, easy-to-read font with good colour contrast. They will be situated in both high and low positions, and will be readable in all light conditions.

Support Persons
Support persons provide assistance with mobility, personal care, medical needs and other necessary services.  A support person will be permitted to go wherever the person they support goes.

Service Animals
Service animals will be allowed to accompany a person with a disability to all areas available to the public.

Staff and Volunteer Training
Ensuring accessibility for all our volunteers and attendees is a priority for our event. The festival will provide training for all staff and volunteers on how to assist individuals with disabilities and familiarize them with the event’s accessibility features.

Communication Assistance
The Barrie Fuzion Festival is a multicultural event held across multiple locations, making it challenging to provide captioners and sign language interpreters. However, all signs on the festival grounds will be displayed in large print and written in plain language.

Maps and Information
To assist attendees in making informed decisions, the festival will offer details about our accessibility features on our website, along with maps of the festival grounds.

Additional Accessibility Considerations
The Information / Transit Tent will serve as the designated location where individuals with disabilities can obtain information about the festival’s accessibility features. The tent is situated near the Main Arena entrance. Volunteers staffing the Information / Transit Tent will receive training on accessibility features as part of their required training.
